Selection of Reviewers

All manuscripts submitted to Lakshmi Biosciences undergo a rigorous and impartial peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality, scientifically sound, and ethically conducted research. Each submission is initially assessed by the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief (or a designated Handling Editor) to determine its suitability for the journal's scope, originality, and compliance with editorial policies.

Manuscripts that successfully pass the preliminary editorial assessment are sent for single-anonymous or double-anonymous peer review, depending on the journal's review model. Independent experts with relevant subject expertise are invited to evaluate the scientific quality, originality, methodology, ethical compliance, clarity, and significance of the submitted work.

Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, publication record, research expertise, and previous peer-review experience. Potential reviewers may be identified through internationally recognized scholarly databases, institutional affiliations, editorial board recommendations, and the journal's reviewer database. Editorial Board Members may also participate in the peer review process when appropriate, provided that no conflict of interest exists.

Editorial decisions are based solely on the scientific merit of the manuscript and the recommendations of the reviewers. Manuscripts are accepted for publication only after successfully satisfying the journal's scientific, ethical, and editorial quality standards.

Peer Review Invitation

Following the initial editorial assessment, manuscripts that are considered suitable for peer review are forwarded to independent experts for scientific evaluation. The purpose of the peer review process is to determine whether the submitted research:

  • Falls within the aims and scope of the journal.
  • Demonstrates originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, and ethical compliance.
  • Meets the journal's editorial standards for publication.

Editors may determine the suitability of a manuscript based on their own expertise or, where appropriate, seek advice from Editorial Board Members or other subject specialists before proceeding with external review.

Lakshmi Biosciences conducts an independent, confidential, and unbiased peer review for all manuscripts considered for publication. Before assigning a manuscript, the Editorial Office contacts potential reviewers to confirm their availability, expertise, and willingness to undertake the review. All communications between reviewers, editors, and the Editorial Office remain strictly confidential.

Invited reviewers are requested to:

  • Accept or decline the review invitation after evaluating the manuscript title and abstract.
  • Declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before accepting the review assignment.
  • Recommend qualified alternative reviewers, where appropriate, if they are unable to review the manuscript because of limited subject expertise, scheduling constraints, or conflicts of interest.
  • Complete the review objectively, fairly, and within the specified review period while maintaining complete confidentiality.

Reviewers who accept the invitation are provided secure access to the full manuscript through the journal's online manuscript submission and peer review system.

Lakshmi Biosciences follows a Double-Blind Peer Review model in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process. This ensures impartial, objective, and unbiased evaluation while protecting the confidentiality of all participants.

Editorial decisions are based on the recommendations of at least two independent expert reviewers, together with the assessment of the handling editor. Where necessary, additional reviewers may be invited to provide further expert opinions.

Following peer review, the corresponding author will receive one of the following editorial decisions through the journal's manuscript management system:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision Required
  • Major Revision Required
  • Reject with an Invitation to Resubmit
  • Reject without Resubmission

The final decision regarding publication rests solely with the Editorial office and Editor-in-Chief or the designated Handling Editor and is based on the manuscript's scientific merit, originality, reviewer recommendations, ethical compliance, and overall contribution to the field.

Purpose of a Review

A review report provides the editor-in-chief/senior editor with an expert opinion on the quality of the manuscript under consideration. It also supplies authors with explicit feedback on how to improve their papers to make them acceptable for publication in the journal. Remarks that may help improve the quality of the manuscript are forwarded to the authors for their consideration.

Selfless Peer Review

Lakshmi Biosciences is committed to maintaining a fair, transparent, and objective peer review process that is free from personal, institutional, financial, or academic bias. Editors and reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts solely on their scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal's scope.

To preserve the integrity of the peer review process, the following principles must be observed:

  • Potentially competing research, whether unpublished, under review, or submitted to another journal, must not influence the fairness, timeliness, or outcome of the editorial assessment.
  • Recommendations to add citations must be based solely on their scientific relevance and contribution to improving the manuscript. Editors and reviewers must not request citations intended primarily to increase citations of their own publications, those of colleagues, affiliated institutions, or any particular journal.
  • Reviewers and editors should avoid promoting their own research or engaging in any form of citation manipulation during the review process.
  • Manuscripts must be assessed objectively without regard to the authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, race, religion, or other personal characteristics.
  • Editors and reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could compromise their impartiality. Individuals with such conflicts should decline participation in the review or editorial decision-making process.
  • Editorial decisions must remain independent of commercial interests, personal relationships, academic competition, or external influence.

Lakshmi Biosciences expects all participants in the peer review process to adhere to internationally recognized publication ethics standards and to uphold the principles of fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and scientific integrity throughout the evaluation process.

Confidentiality

The peer review process at Lakshmi Biosciences is conducted under strict confidentiality. All manuscripts submitted for review are confidential documents and must not be disclosed, discussed, copied, or shared with any individual without prior authorization from the Editor-in-Chief or the Editorial Office.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Maintain complete confidentiality throughout the peer review process.
  • Treat all manuscript content and associated materials as privileged information.
  • Refrain from sharing the manuscript with colleagues or third parties unless prior permission has been obtained from the Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor.
  • Not disclose the existence, content, status, or outcome of the manuscript before its official publication.
  • Securely dispose of manuscript files after completing the review, where appropriate.

Failure to maintain confidentiality may result in removal from the journal's reviewer database and other appropriate editorial actions.

Prompt Review

Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluations promptly to facilitate a timely editorial decision and publication process.

Upon receiving a review invitation, reviewers should:

  • Accept or decline the invitation as soon as possible.
  • Complete the review within the requested timeframe if they agree to review the manuscript.
  • Notify the Editorial Office immediately if unforeseen circumstances prevent timely completion of the review.

Reviewers must not disclose any information relating to the manuscript or the peer review process to anyone prior to the official publication of the article.

Privileged Information and Transparency

Information contained within submitted manuscripts is considered privileged and confidential. Editors and reviewers must not use unpublished data, ideas, methods, interpretations, or findings obtained during the peer review process for their own research, professional activities, or personal benefit without the author's explicit written permission.

Editors and reviewers are expected to:

  • Treat all unpublished information obtained through peer review as confidential.
  • Refrain from using or disclosing privileged information for personal, academic, financial, or commercial advantage.
  • Avoid any action that could compromise the integrity, impartiality, or transparency of the editorial and peer review process.
  • Disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may affect their objectivity and withdraw from the review process where appropriate.

Lakshmi Biosciences is committed to ensuring that all editorial and peer review activities are conducted with the highest standards of confidentiality, transparency, fairness, and research integrity.

Peer Review Manipulation

Peer-review manipulations are dealt with as per the guidelines given by COPE.

Suspected peer-review manipulation, whether identified during review or after publication, is handled in accordance with the relevant COPE flowcharts.

COPE Flowcharts & Guidance

Review Time

The agreed reviewers are expected to provide their reports within 2-4 weeks since a prompt review leads to the timely publication of a manuscript, which is beneficial not only to the authors but also to the scientific community. However, a reviewer who needs extra time for reviewing should consult the editorial office

Changes in Review Reports

The editorial staff relays the comments of the reviewers on behalf of the editor-in-chief/handling editor. The review reports are edited by the editor-in-chief/handling editor if the comments contain confidential information or are written in a language not suitable for scholarly communication. Reviewers should include such comments in the confidential section of the review form, which is intended to be read by the editors only.

Conflict of Interest

Lakshmi Biosciences is committed to maintaining an impartial, transparent, and ethical peer review process. Authors may request that specific individuals not be invited to review their manuscript where a legitimate competing interest exists. While such requests will be considered carefully, the final selection of reviewers remains at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief or the Handling Editor.

Because editors may not be aware of every potential conflict of interest, reviewers are expected to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts immediately upon receiving a review invitation or at any stage during the review process. Reviewers must communicate such concerns directly to the Editorial Office and should not contact the authors regarding conflict of interest matters.

Reviewers should decline a review invitation if any circumstance could reasonably affect their impartiality or create the appearance of bias. Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • Employment at the same institution as one or more of the authors, or a planned move to or application for employment at that institution.
  • Current or recent (generally within the previous three years) collaboration, mentorship, supervision, co-authorship, or joint research funding with any of the authors.
  • Close personal, professional, financial, or family relationships with any of the authors.
  • Financial interests, advisory roles, patents, consultancy agreements, or other relationships that could influence the review.
  • Academic competition or any circumstance that may compromise objective and unbiased evaluation.

Reviewers are required to reconfirm, at the time of submitting their review, that they have no undisclosed conflicts of interest that could influence their assessment of the manuscript.

Editors who identify a conflict of interest concerning a submitted manuscript must recuse themselves from the editorial decision-making process. In such cases, the manuscript will be assigned to another qualified editor to ensure an independent and unbiased evaluation.

Lakshmi Biosciences follows internationally recognized publication ethics standards, including the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), to ensure that all editorial decisions are made fairly, transparently, and solely on the scientific merit of the submitted work.

Editorial Decision

The authors are usually requested to resubmit the revised paper within 15 days, and it is then returned to the reviewers for further evaluation. The publishers normally allow one round of revision, and in exceptional cases, a second round of revision may be allowed. If further revision is needed, then the manuscript is rejected, and the author is requested to resubmit the manuscript for fresh processing.

The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection is by the editor-in-chief, depending on his/her assessment on the revisions recommended by the referees, and about the overall quality of the revised manuscript. In rare cases, manuscripts recommended for publication by the referees may be rejected in the final assessment by the editor-in-chief and senior editor .

Transferred Articles

Lakshmi Biosciences is committed to helping authors identify the most suitable publication venue for their research. If, during the editorial assessment, a manuscript is considered scientifically sound but is found to be outside the aims and scope of the journal to which it was submitted, the Editorial Office may recommend transferring the manuscript to another appropriate journal within the Lakshmi Biosciences publication portfolio, subject to the author's consent.

The manuscript transfer process is intended to simplify submission procedures, reduce duplication of effort, and facilitate a faster editorial evaluation while maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics.

Manuscript Transfer Process

The manuscript transfer process is straightforward and entirely voluntary.

Step 1. Transfer Recommendation
If the Editorial Office determines that another Lakshmi Biosciences journal is more suitable for the manuscript, the corresponding author will receive a transfer recommendation by email. The transfer process will proceed only after the author provides written consent.

Step 2. Manuscript Transfer
Upon receiving the author's approval, the manuscript and its associated submission files will be securely transferred to the recommended journal for editorial assessment. Where appropriate, reviewer reports obtained during the original submission may also be transferred with the author's permission to avoid unnecessary delays.

Step 3. Editorial Assessment
The receiving journal will conduct its own editorial evaluation in accordance with its editorial policies and peer review procedures. Transfer of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance for publication, and the receiving journal may request additional revisions or initiate a new peer review process if necessary.

Author's Choice

Authors are under no obligation to accept a manuscript transfer recommendation. If the transfer offer is declined, the manuscript will remain closed in the original journal, and authors are free to submit their work to any journal of their choice.

Lakshmi Biosciences is committed to providing a transparent, efficient, and author-friendly publication experience by offering flexible submission options while ensuring that every manuscript is evaluated fairly, independently, and according to the editorial standards of the receiving journal.
